MCB customers support a hortitherapy project

MCB customers who opted for E-statements since July 2016 will also be supporting a unique hortitherapy project designed for children and adults suffering from psychological disorders and trauma. A sum of Rs 429,100 was donated to Open Mind, a non-governmental organisation based in Verdun, through the crowdfunding platform Small Step Matters.

In July 2016, MCB launched the E-statement campaign. For each customer registering to receive statements online, Rs 20 were contributed to a special fund. So far, a sum of Rs 731,020 has been raised thanks to 36,551 MCB customers. These funds will be used to support green projects listed on Small Step Matters, and linked to sustainable development.

The funds donated to Open Mind will allow the organisation to purchase plants and gardening material, set up a greenhouse and hold therapeutic organic gardening workshops for approximately 80 adults and children. This hortitherapy project, which is unique in Mauritius, is the first to be funded through the E-statement initiative. Others will follow.

Koomaren Cunnoosamy, Head of Corporate Banking: “I would like to thank and congratulate our customers who have opted for E-statements. Not only are they enjoying the benefits of paperless statements but they are also contributing to help those who are in need. Their choice is helping to make a real difference to people’s lives. This truly embodies the spirit of sustainable development”
