An initiative from MCB to stimulate creativity that drives innovation.

The MCB InovApp Challenge aims to identify brilliant people and teams - including start-ups and SMEs - who can ally creativity, innovation and technology to design next-gen solutions for the Mauritian banking sector. Be part of the #InovAppChallenge – A platform of convergence for passionate geeks, lateral thinkers, troubleshooters and innovators. The ultimate aim of the competition is for each group to come up with a working prototype, helping Mauritians enjoy the many ways through which technology can make their lives easier.


There’s always a better way to do things. How would you improve the lives of Mauritians?
We want – and welcome – ideas that will improve the banking experience of Mauritians. Ideally, your working prototype should fall into one of the following categories:

SME Challenge

Helping SMEs manage and grow their business

Next-gen SME owners are overwhelmed and face a lack of time. They need a seamless way to make and accept payments from both customers and suppliers, as well as manage their business on the go. Currently, most of their B2B payments are done using cash and cheques.

Design a way for MCB to be a partner in their business growth, by offering seamless digital payment solutions, business insights that provide them with clarity and control (e.g. cashflow management), and become a virtual financial assistant to guide financial decisions (e.g. notifications, access to loans based on their payment flows).

Cashless Payments

No cash is not yet the new black

Non-digital savvy customers refuse to use anything except cash because cash is also a means to exert physical control on spending, and is a tangible comfort.

How might we offer a digital payment solution that is as simple and widely accepted as cash, while providing the control and comfort that the customers expect?

Take back control of your bank fees and charges

Individual customers often complain about a lack of understanding, transparency, and guidance about fees and charges that are incurred on bank products and services.

How might we better inform and guide the individual customer towards choosing a banking solution that provides clear guidance on all fees, tradeoffs, and options?


Helping millennials achieve their goals

Millennials on their first job want to feel powerful and in control with their first paycheck. However, they also need a seamless way to save up for their goals. They want immediate responses to their queries and need a bank that speaks their language, without all the typically financial jargon.

How might we offer a banking experience to Millennials that is simple, quick, and familiar?


Banking on sustainability for a positive impact

When it comes to sustainability, the actions of each one of us matter. We may all - irrespective of age - have an impact on the sustainable development of the country, and it is therefore crucial to bring everyone on board.

How can technology be used so as to make sure that all citizens join the digital bandwagon, and to encourage everyone’s involvement?


It may not be the Hunger Games, but let’s face it – everyone likes to win.

Customer API

Customer API allows authenticated users to get customer profile data to enhance engagement levels where KYC check is also available.

Accounts API

Accounts API allow you to access key account data, enhance your financial management services and also have the ability to create a new account.

Loans API

Loan API enables consensual access to customers’ pre-approved loans status, types of loans and details.

Cards API

Card API allows you to apply for credit card and also have details of existing cards for a specific customer.

Payments API

Payment API allows third party apps to offer money transfer services to pre-authorized users.

Customer Services API

Customer Services API provides details on standing order and direct debit for a specific customer as well as creating new standing order and direct debit.

Bank Services API

Details on products offered by the bank including cards, loans, accounts product.

Public Info API

Public information API available on the Bank such as branches and ATMs including geolocation and opening hours.


All participants must adhere to the following criteria to participate in the challenge:

  • - This competition is restricted to teams consisting of 3 to 5 individuals only
  • - You may use open source libraries available elsewhere
  • - By participating in this competition, you agree to our Terms and Conditions
  • - An ideal team should have: a passionate developer, creative minds, coding skills
